Doing Nothing As An Investment

Preserving rainforests is a good thing.
Ending their wanton destruction is a good thing.
Learning of the myriad benefits to medicine is a good thing.

But the carbon emissions/credit trading world is getting a bit surreal.
Making money by preserving a rainforest (meaning, letting it do what it has always done without human activity) does not improve our planet as much as it keeps it from getting worse.

Financial giants and third world governments are both planning on huge investments.
Small nations are looking at windfalls.
Investors are looking to assuage guilt.
Who will make the money?
Who will benefit?

Will this reduce our global carbon footprint?
Is this just another new money-making scheme?

Or, more to the point, where are the ideas that create wealth, embrace global sustainability by cutting and switching our old habits, getting towards a 70% reduction?

But credits?
